Introducing 2013: Moldova!

I have decided to take a look at each entry this year, in a lead-up to the contest! There are 39 countries participating this year, all aiming to win in Malmo (well, some don't wanna win!) Turkey, Portugal, Slovakia and Bosnia & Herzegovina decided to withdraw this year, which was a shame, so lets hope they'll decide to return for 2014! I have drawn all the countries randomly and today it's Moldova;s turn...

Aliona Moon - O Mie!

The last country to hold their national final was Moldova, on 16th March, and before a single note was sung it was obvious Aliona Moon would win! Why? Not just because her song was the best but also because it was composed by Pasha Parfney - last years Moldovan representative. Plus Aliona has a great voice which suits the song superbly. The Moldovan national selection proved controversial, well the rules did - Natalia Barbu withdrew her offer and so did Geta Burlacu. They both entered the Romanian selection but neither did very well, poor old Geta didn't even made the final 32! And damn her song was awesome...

After the Moldovan final, it was announced that A Million would be translated back into Romanian for the contest - now known as O Mie. This I welcomed - it's much better in the native tongue rather than English. When listing to both versions, I can tell Aliona seems more natural and relaxed in Romanian. It seems to give the song more depth. Will Moldova qualify? Most likely but I don't think it's certain - the country is drawn between Ireland and Belarus, both uptempo numbers and therefore could go unnoticed in Malmo. Hopefully they will really go to town with the performance, like in the NF, and make it as crazy as possible! Good luck Moldova...
