Georgia: Thomas G:son to compose entry!

Well this guy gets around, doesn't he?! It's now been confirmed he is going to compose the Georgian entry for Malmo!

GPB has already announced Nodi Tatishvili and Sophie Gelovani will represent the country in Malmo! Last year Thomas G:son wrote the Swedish and Spanish entry- he is a great songwriter! So I am happy however we won't be seeing the first song in the Georgian language in Malmo. It's not been confirmed weather Georgia will hold a national final but it's likely they will go internal now. This will be his 63rd Eurovision song - WOW! ^^

Enjoy Euphoria which G:son composed...

Romania: National Final to be used!

It's been revealed Romania will select their entry by using a televised national final! The Romanian broadcaster TVR, are now calling for songs!

Natalia Barbu has already announced she is applying for it - as she didn't agree with the Moldovan rules! I think it's only a matter of time until Romania wins Eurovision - most years they sent good songs and have achieved respectable results. Romania are yet to win. Well who would you like to see Romania represented by? For me Electric Fence - they almost had the right to represent Romania in 2012, but came 2nd to Mandigna! No dates have been released!

Enjoy Electric Fence, a very unseal band but a very good one...

Malmo 2013: The best of National Finals #1!

Don't we all love national finals? I do!

I have decided to start a new series sharing my thoughts on some tracks which could make Malmo! It's not long now until it all kicks of properly...

So far 5 countries have selected their entry - Belgium, Albania, Ukraine, Lithuania and Switzerland! Belarus will change their song, no surprise  but it seems this year they will keep Alyona! Here are a few songs which could make Malmo?

  • France: Anne Marie David - Je manque de toi!
Anne Marie David wants to represent France again, after 40 years! Now France have not announced how they will select their entry but Anne Marie David has announced her interest, via Facebook! I would love for her to return to ESC! Her song is a typical French powerful ballad which could do very well in May, especially with the jury! I think she is a strong contender to represent France! Enjoy...

  • Malta: Claudia Faniello - When It's Time...
It's no secret that Claudia is desperate to represent her country, Malta, at Eurovision and this year she could indeed make it! She has a unique voice which will hopefully strand out on 2nd February, this is the date Malta will select their entry. Last year I was sure she would win, unfortunately this wasn't the case. If Claudia did win I would be delighted! I'm not sure if she will though, the Maltese is very strong this year!

  • Finland: Mikael Saari - We Should Be Through
Another country which is looking very strong this year is Finland! Yes, they have some amazing songs! My favourite is Mikael Saari - he has amazing vocal abilities and the song... It's perfection! This years Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu is going to be incredibly close. I think if he was to make Eurovision, it would be one of my all time favourites - the lyrics are beautiful and with a good performance... Helsinki 2014?

  • Latvia: Samanta Tina -  I Need A Hero
Who would have thought Latvia could come up with something like this? A fantastic ballad, which is perfect for Eurovision! Samanta Tina is one of the greatest vocalists from Latvia; therefore I have no doubt she could carry this off! I would be pleased if she represented Latvia although even if she doesn't, there are many good songs competing in Latvia. I think with a bit of work this could be epic!

  • Romania: Natalia Barbu - Confession...
After she withdrew from the selection in Moldova, because of the rules Natalia announced she is willing to represent Romania in Malmo! Great news - It's an awesome song and she does have amazing vocals, just look at Fight from 2007! When I first heard it I didn't like it - it's grown on me immensely! I'm not sure if she is popular in Romania and TVR are yet to announce how the Romanian entry will be chosen... If they decide to go internal, I bet we will see this in Malmo!

What do you think? Isn't 2013 shaping up to be great!!! :D

Spain: Online petition set up!

In 2012, TVE only broadcast one semi final - the one they voted in and didn't air the other. This caused Spanish fans to get very angry therefore they have decided to set up an online petition to perused TVE to air it!

Eurovision is an extremely popular show in Spain! If you want to sign the petition - you can do so aqui! I have done so, in just under two week time the semi final allocation draw will take place where we will learn which semi Spain (and the other Big 5) will vote in.

El Sueño de Morfeo have been internally selected and the song will be chosen through a national final, due to be held in February.

San Marino: Artist to be announced 31st January!

Who will represent San Marino? It seems we will know by the end of the month! According to Il Giornale their entry will be released in a press conference! SMTV are in talks with four acts and two are "internationally acclaimed" Exiting!

A few days ago Lys Assia announced she wouldn't represent the country, so we know it won't be her! Whatever happens I wish Madam Assia and San Marino the best of luck! Who would you like to see fly the San Marinesse flag in Malmo?

Personally I would love to see San Marino represented by Giusy Ferreri but I doubt that will ever happen... Still, we can dream! Their goal is to make the final, I hope they can do it!

Update - A press conference will be held on 30th January!

Turkey: Negotiations to bring them back?

We were all shocked when Turkey announced they would be withdrawing from this years contest, due to the Big 5 rule, but now according to Oikotimes they could be back!

It seems the EBU and TRT could be in talks to bring the country back! Apparently even the Turkish prime-minster is also in talks with the EBU, not confirmed! Even though the deadline has closed and 39 countries have been confirmed for Malmo, but will the EBU bring back Turkey? Maybe their participation fee would be lowered or they could join the Big 5 - and then we would have a Big 6! That would be great, what do you think?

This news has not been officially confirmed, yet...

San Marino: Lys Assia denies her participation!

Lys Assia has some very big news however....she won't be representing San Marino in Malmo, according to Il Giornale.

I am kind of pleased, I wouldn't like her to embarrass herself with All In Your Head. Maybe she will be playing a minor role in Malmo or could be a guest of honour. But, she said this...
Yes, I would be delighted to represent another country at the Eurovision Song Contest. My music goes beyond borders. New, musical news is coming your way.
San Marino have been very quite, as usual, but news is expected before the end of March \(get the joke!). I still think this big news will be something we don't expect! She has been contacting several Eurovision siteswhat could this news be? It should be announced by the end of this month! BTW, if you have Twitter - follow her her! Lys Assia failed to make the Swiss final with this...

Hungary: Magdi Rúzsa will be a jury member for "A Dal"!

Hungary decided to go with a new concept last year, A Dal, and it proved extremely popular in Hungary as it was one of the most watched shows in 2012. Therefore MTV decided to keep the concept for 2013 and today, more details have been released regarding the completion!

MTV has announced the jury members, which include Magdi Rúzsa (2007) - here is the full list...

  • Csaba Walkó (ESC 2012, part of Compact Disco)
  • Philip Rákay - Program director
  • Jenő Csiszár - Radio anchor
  • Viktor Rakonczai (ESC 1997, part of VIP)
  • Magdi Rúzsa (ESC 2007)
The selection will kick of 2nd February and heats will be held on the 9th and 16th then two semi finals on 23rd and 24th February! The grand final will be held 2nd March! I hear some big names are due to compete including Toth Gabi - not confirmed. Here is Magdia in Helsinki, back in 2007...

Romania: Natalia Barbu offers her song to Romania!

Yesterday it was announced Natalia Barbu  had decided to withdraw from the Moldovan selection as she didn;t agree with the rules but ESC is still in her sight! She is now willing to represent Romania!

Today her song, Confession, is an awesome track and I think it would be great in Eurovision! She believes that the Moldovan rules are offensive  to composers and artists - as artists should be able decide what song to perform and composers should decide who sings their song. I agree! Submissions for the Moldovan selection close on the 10th - the final is due for March. Here is what Natalia said about Confession...
Me and my team believe that the song ‘Confession’ is likely to win out the Eurovision 2013 because it has a message with special energy to every girl, woman and mother in this world. And I hope men will understand that a woman is happy when beloved
Even though Romania hasn't announced how they will pick their entry - she has offered to represent the country in Malmo! Here is her song... Do you like it? Is it good enough for Malmo? I think yes!

Malmo 2013: Semi-final allocation on 17th January!

In two weeks time we will know who will perform in each semi final! Exiting news!

We all are aware of the running order will be selected by the producers - this has sparked lots of controversy. The semis will consist of a total of 33 countries - 16 in the first and 17 in the second. Denmark has already been drawn in the first semi final and Norway in the second.

The Big 5 + Sweden are automatically qualified to the final. No times have yet been announced yet by the EBU, however it's normally held in the afternoon) 39 countries will participate in Malmo - this is the same amount as Oslo, in 2010 after Portugal, Turkey Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovakia decided to withdraw from this years edition. We will also know on the 17th January what semi finals the Big 5 countries (Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy) and the host, Sweden, will vote!

Loreen is the reason why we are heading to Sweden....

Slovenia: Nuša Derenda covers Euphoria!

Nuša Derenda is one of the most famous singers in Slovenia and has covered Loreen's Euphoria!

She performed it during a New Year's Eve concert in Slovenia along with her 2001 entry. New Years Eve saw several concerts around Europe, including one in Berlin where Blue, Kate Ryan and Loreen performed to see in the New Year.

She is rumoured to represent her country in Malmo, however no news has yet been released by RTVSLO. She tried to represent Slovenia in 2011, however Maja Keuc finally got the ticket. I would love to see her again in ESC! As Iris would say... Would you?

Here it is!

Moldova: Natalia Barbu withdraws because of the rules...

NO! We all had high expectations from Moldova this year because Natalia Barbu was in the running but now it seems that is not the case. She has decided to withdraw!  The reason being because she doesn't agree with the rules...

This years Moldovan selection will see artists participating with songs selected for them by TRM, the Moldovan broadcaster - and thus not songs of their own choice. She said...

“It is something imposed only to Moldova and the authors submit their song along with an artist because they believe in the specific project and I wonder if the artists are naive to accept such a rule. I think the new rule is offensive to authors and singers and don’t get me wrong I can interpret even a phone book if needed, but I don’t like to be forced to share a song”

The song will be released tomorrow... It is a great shame she decided to withdraw but I respect her for it! Why should she share her song? Pity for Moldova! Here is Fight, from 2007...

Denmark: Dansk Melodi Grand Prix gets bigger and bigger!

Who will follow Soluna Samay?
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix seems to be getting bigger and better!

More details have been released regarding the event including a exiting stage design! The stage will be designed by Claus Zie and is going to be the biggest DMGP has ever seen, it's going to be impressive! He says...
"This year we are using money on size; we need to do something to fill Boxen. The stage is made up of window shapes, rising diagonally upwards"
Also the green room will be... GREEN! Yep, that's right! This is going to be an amazing show! So far the only jury member to be announced is Jørgen de Mylius, who has worked around the show for 30 years. The other members will be announced soon, it seems. The full line-up is due to be released on 19th January! Will you be watching? We will see the grand final on 26th January. Good luck Denmark...

There entry from last year, it was pretty good...

Finland: Final versions online!

I must say Finland is looking incredibly strong this year! Today the Finish broadcaster, YLE, revealed all the participating songs for Uuden musiikin kilpailu 2013!

After hearing them all my immediate favourite is Diandra and her song Colliding Into You!  The line-up is really incredible this year! I honestly don't dislike any - Well Done Finland! The first heat of UMK is 17th January, the second heat 24th January and then the semi final is due for 31st January. The grand final will take place 9th February - I can't wait for it! Who is your favourite?

Here is mine...
