Introducing 2014: Lithuania!

Vilija Matačiūnaitė won the Lithuanian selection with Attention. A very contemporary entry from Lithuania. Vilija Matačiūnaitė isn't just a songwriter, she's also an actress. The Lithuanian national final started in December 2013 and finally came to an end on 1st March. The final show was even postponed a couple of weeks because of the high ratings. I didn't really follow the Lithuanian national final, however I did manage to watch parts of the final. The final featured the three remaining acts performing the same song - and then the Lithuanians decided which interpretation they preferred.

I liked all the version, actually. It's a very good song. Mia's version was very classy and sophisticated, meanwhile Vaidas's version had a more relaxed atmosphere. But Vilija composed "Attention" and I think she was a worthy winner. Will Lithuania make the grand final in Copenhagen?! I expect so... I think Lithuania has a very good chance this year.

Lithuania: Vilija Matačiūnaitė is heading to Eurovision!

Tonight's national finals come to an end with Lithuania. Vilija Matačiūnaitė won the Lithuanian selection with her version of Attention. Mia was tonight's runner-up and Vaidas Baumila came last. I do really like Vilija actually - although I don't know if she'll make the final... a borderline qualifier at best me thinks.

Tomorrow will be another busy day as Azerbaijan will hold their national final (even though the winner has already decided it seems....) and the French act will be revealed, too!

Lithuania: "Eurovizijos" comes to an end tonight!

The Lithuanian selection process has been going on for ageeees, but it finally comes to an end tonight! But who's heading to Eurovision?! It's going to be either Mia, Vaidas Baumila or Vilija Matačiūnaitė.. "Attention" has already been confirmed as the song choice, and each act brings a different style to the song. Mia is very classy and sophisicated, while Vaidas gives us a stipped back aucustic version. Vilija's take on the song has more of a rock vibe. The show will start at 20:00 CET. Who will fly the Lithuanian flag in Copenhagen?

Lithuania: "Attention" announced as song choice!

But who's going to perform it in Copenhagen? Well that will be decided on 1st March. Three acts are currently in the running to fly the Lithuanian flag - and these acts are MiaVaidas Baumila and  Vilija Matačiūnaitė. I prefer Mia's version. She brings class to this song!

Lithuania: Three acts remain in the selection...

The Lithuanian marathon will finally come to an end in a couple of weeks - and three acts remain in the selection. Monika Linkytė was eliminated last night.

Mia, Vilija Matačiūnaitė, Vaidas Baumila still have two songs in the selection - so I guess one of the songs will be eliminated next week? Or maybe the two finalists will compete with both of their songs in the final? I have no idea. The grand final is due to be held on 1st March.

Lithuania: Martynas Kavaliauskas disqualified!

I haven't been following the Lithuanian selection this year, as it's been going on for months and months. The final has actually been postponed until 1st March due to high interest. And this is brilliant as it shows so many Lithuanian people are interested in Eurovision. :-)

Martynas Kavaliauskas has been disqualified from the selection as he violated rules by cheating in televoting. LRT confirmed that over half of his votes were fraudulent. Oh dear... Anyway, we still have four acts competing for the Lithuanian ticket to Copenhagen and these are:

  • Mia - It's not too late / It's all about a boy
  • Vilija Matacinaute - Blowing out cobwebs / Dying
  • Vaidas Baumila - Attention / Is this the way
  • Monika Linkyte - You found me / Let's share that love tonight

Lithuania: Listen to the songs!

This years Lithuanian selection is a lengthy process, and I haven't really been following it, although it is getting interesting now as potential ESC songs have been released online. Each artist will be paired with two songs - there are therefore currently 16 songs in the running.

Listen to the songs here. Kristina Radžiukynaitė was eliminated  last nights and therefore eight artists remain in the race:

  • Vilija Matačiūnaitė
  • Justinas Lapatinskas
  • Monika Linkytė
  • Martynas Kavaliauskas
  • Ieva Zasimauskaitė
  • Vaidas Baumila
  • Mia
  • VIG Roses

The song, that'll represent Lithuania, will be selected on 8th February and then the artist selection will take place a week later, on 15th February.
