WISHLIST 2016: MEDINA FOR DENMARK!

This little series is dedicated to artists from across Europe who I want to see represent their country in Stockholm! And we start with Denmark...

It's probably an obvious choice but I love her. Medina is one of Denmark's biggest artists having sold over 500,000 singles and 130,000 albums. She's won the MTV Europe Music Award for being the Best Danish Act three times and also several other music awards in Denmark. Medina, who has Chilean roots, shot to fame in 2009 with Kun for mig, which was later translated to You And I. The single was released in the UK' too actually and was ranked an A-list at BBC Radio 1. You And I also entered the American Billboard Chart “Hot Dance Airplay” at #6 as well. Germans love her too. “Welcome to Medina” (her first international album) sold 100,000 copies there. So there's some German points for Denmark if they ever do send her! Denmark won the contest in 2000 and 2013 when Sweden hosted Eurovision, with her a hat trick is more than possible :-) Enjoy some more of her music below!

Do you think she would be a good option for the Danes?

Denmark: DMGP 2016 to be held on 13th February!

The Danes will select their entry for Stockholm on 13th February. As always, DMGP will be used to select Denmark's song and next year the festival will take place in the city of Horsens. It's very unlikely to happen although I'd love to see Medina compete.

Denmark: Emmelie de Forest releases 'Hopscotch'

Emmelie de Forest's new single isn't what I expected. I like her. I always have but I'm not loving her new song. Maybe the song will grow on me - but it's both unoriginal and boring. It's a million miles away from her first album. I expected better. Am I being harsh? Listen below:

Sweden 2016: The Faroe Islands to participate?

But aren't they part of Denmark? Yes, however Bjørn Kalsø, the Faroese Minister of Education, has said:
The justification so far has been that the countries have to be acknowledged by the United Nations as independent in order to participate. But there is no doubt that we could easily overstep those barriers, if we’re absolutely determined to reach this goal.
Portal reports that The Faroe Islands filed an application to participate in Eurovision five years ago although was turned down as they're not completely independent. Denmark has control over the islands even though the Faroese do have control over most matters within the country. It is a slightly tricky subject. Naturally, I'd love to see as many countries as possible but for some reason I can't see it happening. Would be great though. Eivør is arguably the most famous singer from The Faroe Islands - wouldn't she be amazing in Eurovision?

REVIEWING THE CLASS OF 2015: DENMARK!

Anti Social Media won DMGP back in January, even though Anne Gadegaard won the televote. This did cause some controversy.. Anyway, here's what we think about the Danish effort....

Ana: Denmark was totally wrong choosing this song. I love the 60s style but the song is too simple and flat. Maybe, being an uptempo song will give it some extra points but I’m not sure if that will be enough to make them reach the final. 4/10

Ilkar: Back to 60's with this The Beatles inspired number that I find only irritating. Totally uninteresting and unoriginal in every way. Nice suits thought. 2.5/10

Jack: When Anti Social Media won DMGP, I was not impressed. They had several more interesting and stronger songs in my opinion - such as Suitcase and Hotel A. Anti Social Media's entry isn't terrible. The tune is rather catchy.. If they're going to do well, the lead singer needs to work on his vocals as they were pretty horrendous during the Danish national final. But it isn't for me. 4.5/10

Jess: I have to say at first I was not a big fan of the song, however it has grown on me quite a bit! I think it is one to watch! 6/10

John: Well, they look far too innocuous to be "anti" anything but the Danish representatives this year have a very memorable tune. I really like this song and its feel-good tempo. Not the strongest entry ever from Denmark but there's something very like able about it. 7/10

OUR VERDICT - 24/50
OVERALL SCORE - 4.8/10

Denmark: Anne Gadegaard - "The jury stinks to hell"

Anti Social Media won the right to represent Denmark in Vienna last night and this has been a rather controversial choice to say the least. Anne Gadegaard, who won the televote and came 2nd overall, said "The jury stinks to hell." More hereAnd when asked if the best song won, she said:
That I can't say. If it was up to the Danish public, yes I am. But again, I think that's hard to say. I've got to know the guys from Anti Social Media well and I think they're really nice. I get on really well with them. So I can give them that.
This blogger did prefer Anne's song and I can understand her frustration although I'd like to wish Anti Social Media all the best. It isn't as bad as some people are saying and it is catchy as hell! Interestingly, we had a similar situation in Cyprus last week. Fan favourite Panagiotis Koufogiannis won the televote although due to the jury, he didn't win and this was not a very popular decision. What do you guys think? Was Anne the real winner last night?

ANTI SOCIAL MEDIA TO REPRESENT DENMARK!

Anti Social Media narrowly beat Anne Gadegaard in Denmark and therefore Anti Social Media are going to fly the Danish flag in Vienna!

Anne Gadegaard came 2nd overall although did win the televote. Surprisingly, Tina & René only managed 6th. I did have a sneaky feeling they would take the crown after their performance, they did nail it vocally. I don't dislike The Way You Are, I just feel Denmark had stronger and better songs. Plus if Finland selects Satin Circus, both acts would totally cancel each other out in Vienna...

Anne performed her song amazingly tonight and was my winner. She should be proud!

Review: Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2015!

Denmark will select their representative this Saturday, so I have decided to do a little review!

Sara Sukurani's Love Me Love Me was composed by Arash (Azerbaijan 2009), amongst others and it's one of my favourites. This song isn't doing very well in online polls though but I hope she can surprise everyone on the night and do well but it's no winner. Sara will open the show. Tina & René's Mi Amore or In A Moment Like This X2 (as some would say) is a decent song and it's catchy but somehow leaves me cold and bored. I don't dislike it but I don't love it either. Would I be disappointed if they won? I think I would be because there are stronger songs although that's just my opinion. The duo do promise us a great performance..

Marcel & Soulman Group have a really good entry but it won't make a big impression. This blogger has two big favourites and Cecilie Alexandra's Hotel A is one of them. She seems to be winning the online polls and it's a unique song. If performed well, it's a contender for sure but I fear the big stage could damage her chances. If that makes sense. The Danish selection normally consists of many decent pop tracks and this year is no exception. Andy Roda and X Factor finalist Babou both have good songs but they aren't memorable enough. They're just OK - nothing more, nothing less.... I do have a soft spot for Julie Bjerre's Tæt på mine drømme. I don't understand a word she's singing yet it brings a smile to my face. Can't see her winning though.. I think the fact she sings in Danish will hinder her chances. Isn't that sad?

Anti Social Media are pretty popular yet their song does nothing for me. It's a bit dated. Anne Gadegaard is the big favourite to win. I do love Suitcase and it was one of the only songs that I kept humming to myself after listening to all the entries. Anne also has the most views on YouTube and is the bookmakers favourite. A winner? Not sure but she will be in the Superfinal for sure. The show will be closed by World of Girls. Summer Without You is very catchy and has a great upbeat sound that I think the Danes might opt for it. And that would not be a bad thing whatsoever.

My Prediction:
Winner - Anne Gadegaard - Suitcase
2nd Place - World Of Girls – Summer Without You
3rd Place - Tina & René – Mi Amore

My Personal Top Three:
My Winner - Cecilie Alexandra – Hotel A
2nd Place - Anne Gadegaard - Suitcase
3rd Place - World Of Girls – Summer Without You

Germany: Emmelie de Forest collaborates with Fahrenhaidt for Eurovision?

Fahrenhaidt are one of the eight acts who will participate in Unser Song für Österreich next month, hoping to win the right to represent Germany. As we know, each act will compete with two songs. Fahrenhaidt's first song has already been published. It's Frozen Silence, and it fronted by Amanda Pedersen. However their second song is yet to be revealed. The interesting thing is that Emmelie de Forest, winner of Eurovision 2013, has collaborated with them on the song Wildfire. A two minute snippet of the song has been released and damn it sounds fantastic! Will Wildfire be the second song Fahrenhaidt compete with in the upcoming German national final? Will Emmelie return to Eurovision for Germany? We will find out soon enough. In the meantime, you can read their interview with escXtra here where they confirmed a Danish singer will join them on stage..

Update - It appears Amanda Pedersen will indeed perform both songs with the 2nd song yet to be released.

DR wasn't going to reveal their songs for DMGP 2015 until next Monday but they have already leaked it seems.. People who pre-ordered the CD got it through the post today ahead of its official release. Ooops. This isn't the first time this has happened as the Finnish songs were also leaked a couple of days ago ahead of their official release. These acts will participate in DMGP 2015:

  • Tina & René – Mi Amore
  • Anne Garegaard – Suitcase
  • Babou – Manjama
  • Cecilie Alexandra – Hotel A
  • Anti Social Media – The Way You Are
  • Julie Bjerre – Tæt På Mine Drømme
  • Andy Roda – Love Is Love

NuVidz: Sergey Lazarev, Mrs. Greenbird, Indila, Tim Schou!

Sergey Lazarev has recently released 7 цифр. It's an awesome pop song. Sergey is tipped to represent Russia in Vienna with Breaking Away. This blogger think he would be a fantastic choice if selected but only time will tell if the rumours turn out to be true. Shine, Shine, Shine is one of the songs Mrs. Greenbird are aiming to represent Germany with. What do you think about their song? I think it's cute. Indila's Love Story is one of my favourite songs from her album Mini World. The official-video for Love Story was released a couple of months ago.. unfortunately, she isn't interested in Eurovision. Finally, Goodbye is Tim Schou's latest song and you can buy it on iTunes if you wish.

Denmark: Anne Gadegaard to participate in DMGP?

On 26th January, the full line-up for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will be officially revealed. Anne Gadegaard is set to participate. She represented Denmark in Junior Eurovision in 2003, where she achieved 5th place on home soil. The competing songs won't be revealed until 2 weeks before the final, which is set for 7th March.

Missed Opportunities 2014: Denmark!

Basim represented Denmark on home-soil, and achieved 9th place - however he wasn't my first choice. So, who should have represented Denmark instead?

Michael Rune feat Natascha Bessez - Wanna Be Loved
OMG! Wanna Be Loved was fabulous! I still listen to this song regularly - it's a terrible shame the Danes never selected it. The performance in DMGP was awesome and Natasha's vocals were fantastic. Plus, that saxophone is so epic. This would have been one of my favourites, if chosen for Copenhagen.

Denmark: Emmelie De Forest's 'Rainmaker' is certificated gold!

Congratulations, Emmelie! Rainmaker has received over 1.3 million streams, and has therefore been certificated Gold. Nice! The song was the official anthem of Eurovision 2014, and was eve included on the official album. Emmelie's performance in Eurovision was fantastic... and wasn't it lovely to see all the participants dancing together on stage? Let's relieve that fantastic performance!

Copenhagen 2014: Grand final tonight!

The grand final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will be held tonight! 26 acts are all in the running to be crowned the winner, and it's going to be a spectacular show. The running order was decided yesterday by DR and the EBU. Ukraine will open the show, and the United Kingdom will close it! Does this mean Molly can win? I really hope so! Azerbaijan will perform #03 in the finale - maybe this be the first year they don't make the top ten? And who will be last? I have a horrible feeling it could be Germany.. I hope I'm wrong. There are so many unanswered questions - and that's why this is the strongest and most exciting final in years! Remember, we see Montenegro and San Marino in the final for the first time ever! I predict the winner will be between Sweden, Hungary, Spain, The Netherlands, Denmark, Russia, Greece and maybe Austria? It's so hard to call. These are tonight's participants:
  1. Ukraine
  2. Belarus
  3. Azerbaijan
  4. Iceland
  5. Norway
  6. Romania
  7. Armenia
  8. Montenegro
  9. Poland
  10. Greece
  11. Austria
  12. Germany
  13. Sweden
  14. France
  15. Russia
  16. Italy
  17. Slovenia
  18. Finland
  19. Spain
  20. Switzerland
  21. Hungary
  22. Malta
  23. Denmark
  24. The Netherlands
  25. San Marino
  26. United Kingdom
Good luck to everyone! Especially Ruth Lorenzo, Emma, Molly and Valentina Monetta! <3

Introducing 2014: Denmark!

Basim (Anis Basim Moujahid) won Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 8th March with Cliche Love Song. Denmark is this years' host nation and I predict they will make the top ten with no problems. Basim will perform at #23 in the running-order. I'm not a massive fan of the song. It's pleasant and very sweet although I do feel Denmark had more to offer...

Michael Rune feat Natascha Bessez came 2nd with Wanna Be Loved! This song is fantastic and it would have been one of my favourite songs in Copenhagen, if Denmark had selected it... I was so gutted when this didn't win! Oh well. I know her vocals weren't that strong but it's still awesome! I also liked Your Lies, by Rebekka Thornbech. "Cliche Love Song" will probably do really well in Copenhagen although I don't think Denmark will be hosts in 2015..

Copenhagen 2014: Basim to perform 23rd in the final!

The Head of Delegation meeting has taken place today in Copenhagen, where a random draw decided when Basim will perform in the grand final. Denmark will perform at #23 in the running order.

In order to keep things fair, the host country's running order will be decided by a random draw. Could Denmark win for the 2nd year in a row? His vocals are pretty good and the song is incredibly catchy.... Hmm. The rest of the draw will be decided by DR's producers and that will be revealed in the weeks to come. Meanwhile. the final draw will be decided once all the finalists are chosen.

Denmark: Basim wins with "Cliché Love Song"!

I knew it! Basim won DMGP! It's safe to say Denmark won't win the contest for a 2nd time in a row... I've only heard the song a couple of times and I'm very underwhelmed. The annoying thing is that Michael Rune feat. Natascha Bessez came joint 2nd. I hope the song will grow on my as I really wanted to like Denmark's song this year. The song was somehow awarded top points from the Danish televote and jury.

Denmark: National final tonight!

Who will follow in Emmelie de Forest's footsteps? We'll find out tonight. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will take place in Arena Fyn in Odense and ten participants are hoping to be victorious. Take a listen to the songs on DR's official website. I have a feeling GlamboyP will win, but I hope I'm wrong. I do love Michael Rune feat. Natascha Bessez's song - that saxophone is awesome plus they have a great draw! Like I've previously said, the outcome will depend on the live performances. I'm really looking forward to it. The show will start at 20:00 and you can watch it here.
  1. Sonny – Feeling the you
  2. Anna David – It hurts
  3. Basim - Cliche love song
  4. Rebekka Thornbech - Your lies
  5. GlamboyP - Right by your dide
  6. Bryan Rice - I choose u
  7. Nadia Malm – Before you forget me
  8. Michael Rune feat. Natascha Bessez - Wanna be loved
  9. Emilie Moldow - Vi finder hjem
  10. Danni Elmo – She’s the one
